Narcissism and Humiliation

Created as a final semester piece, this diptych painting addresses two separate themes melded into one subject matter.

The artwork as a whole displays the duality between narcissism and the effect of humiliation. The bottom painting is a female figure who is calmly immersed within a tranquil underwater setting, which is achieved through the use of glass beads, hot glue, India ink, and felt over top layers of thick clear cast resin. Though the female on the top of the painting is represented in the exact demeanor as her reflection in the water, she is oblivious to the reality of her narcissism, which is where paper arms from every direction point and laugh at her for her vanity.

This harsh reality is symbolized by a chaotic and grungy city setting constructed from painted wood, painted newspaper, metal wire, black India ink, and glass tiles.
