Collage Girl & Collage Boy

This portrait is an in-class study on the way the anatomy of a woman figure can be viewed at multiple angles with different media. The process includes drawing the model in one pose with only one medium in two separate sessions. When finished, both works are deconstructed and then puzzled together with variously cut shapes of paper to form a new perspective of the female model and adding balance with color. India ink was used in order to unify what was left between the anatomy and the blue and brown paper. The splash of red ink in the lips, hair, and nails overall reveals her character and exhibits the best understanding of her curious expression.

Similar in style to the drawing of “Collage Girl,” the process of “Collage Boy” takes the techniques a step further by applying the same method of combining multiple parts of human anatomy together and then adding a narrative to the background. This study tests the potential of drawing a male nude model in class with two separate media and creating an expressive impact using the red and black india ink as a balance once the colored paper and male model parts have been arranged. A restless story is established when a classmate in the background and props in the foreground are added.
