Cocoon

This surreal traditional painting is inspired by the song “Cocoon” from the band Assemblage 23. The theme pulled from the song’s lyrics is fueled from multiple emotions (most of them are dark and gloomy).

The silhouetted figure lying on his/her back with hands thrown up against the face represents the soul in a state of overwhelming angst. The blanket of warm- colored webbing draped over the figure symbolizes a metaphorical cocoon that people put over themselves in times of desired isolation.

The spectrum of cooler colors dripping down the page represents an array of mournful emotions and thoughts that can pour out of the soul in the form of tears. In addition, the black void in the background is utilized in order to pronounce the feeling of abyssal emptiness and abandonment. This project was completed as a personal piece.
